Virtual Reality and future of games. Companies and innovation.
Virtual reality (VR) is a computer-generated environment with scenes and objects that appear to be real, making the user feel they are immersed in their surroundings. VR allows us to immerse ourselves in video games as if we were one of the characters, learn how to perform heart surgery or improve the quality of sports training to maximize performance. Participants both experience and influence the game environment through a variety of VR gaming devices and accessories, including VR headsets, sensor-equipped gloves, hand controllers, and more.
IDC (International Data Corporation) predicts that the Virtual reality market will dramatically expand from just over $9 billion last year to $215 billion by 2021. That incredible 118% compound annual growth rate would make VR on of the fastest growing industries on earth.
What exactly you will be able to do with VR?
Well this is a complex question, but here is 'what you can currently do' and after it 'what you will be able to do'
Currently you can buy a headset and a hand controller and you're ready to play. You can play games like- Half Life: Alyx, Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners, L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files. If you enjoy them and have a great experience, it is considered good(currently).
For more you can find a VR service in your area and they'll provide you with some more accessories like the glove, vest where you can feel the sensations and other equipment and you can play games like- Curse of Davy Jones, Dead Wood Mansion, Amber Sky 2088. They'll charge you by a hourly rate. You will get most services for $25 or less, it also depends on your location though.
And also you can play hardcore games with your friends and enjoy.
Except gaming you can currently do other things with VR as well, like- Enjoying a view of some other place, using it for education, watching a horror or action movie(which actually is a lot of fun) and etc.
What you will be able to do with VR for gaming?
You will be able to experience a other world, that's the most simple definition I can give you. In future you will be able to play games which are very hard to distinguish from reality, you will be able to feel them, you will be able to sense them, you will be able to see yourself. Games in the future with VR are going to be a lot of fun.
In future, you will be able to play VR games with more 'real feel'. Companies are trying to make 8k VR games just to deliver you that experience because every gamers first choice is experience and hardly anyone compromises on that.
We will also see hardware enhancements as well, like-less or minimized accessories, safety features, eye care, hearing and etc. You will not need a heavy vest to feel game (as now).
Companies like- Sony, HTC, Facebook are competing for this future. Facebook has Oculus which they already released in August 2021 and Sony released their PS4 VR the similar month.
The latest 5g standard can also provide very interesting scenarios for the evolution or VR. This standard will allow more devices and large user communities to be connected. In addition, its almost invisible latency will make it possible for consumers to receive images in real time, almost as if they were seeing them with their own eyes.
Virtual Reality (VR) is no longer a niche, VR applications are evolving fast, and they ate penetrating in many industry sectors. From healthcare to the automotive industry, VR is changing the ways things are done, and expectations for the future remain high. This is particularly true of video games.
History of VR.
Virtual Reality is not as young as we may think. In fact, many people consider that one of the first Virtual Reality devices was called Sensorama, a machine with a built-in seat that played 3D movies, gave off odors and generated vibrations to make the experience as vivid as possible. The invention dates back as far as the mid-1950s. Subsequent technological and software developments over the following years brought with them a progressive evolution both in devices and in interface design.
How VR games can be played?
Virtual reality games can be played on standalone systems, specialized game console, or using advanced laptops and PCs that can power the leading VR headsets such as Oculus Rift, HTC Vice. and Lenovo Mirage Solo.
The bottom line.
The target demographic for video games continues to change and evolve, but one thing remains the same; as I told you gamers are looking for the best game experience possible. As VR makes its continues push into the gaming world, players are looking to experience this new type of play, and many want to do it in affordable price.
VR arcades are becoming more common among the gaming community. They are allowing players to fully experience VR gaming without having to purchase a headset of their own. The VR gaming as a service, the industry earned $286.7 million last year, according to the Super Data Research, can grow $2.3 billion industry by 2020. Despite not being largely widespread, VR arcades are serving a targeted and growing community.
Yokey Pokey in Brooklyn, which opened in late 2017, has 42 headsets ranging from Playstation VR, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Samsung Gear, Prices start at $25 for 30 minutes. These arcades can serve a variety of customers and can be catered to different parties and events. "Virtual reality allows for all types of games and all types of people who just want to have good experience" said George Casseus, head of business development for Yokey Pokey.
